We’ve partnered with Sandy Creek to showcase how even heavy breeds like Clydesdales can benefit from using a GutzBusta Slow Feed Hay Net. Designed to reduce waste, support digestive health, and withstand serious strength, our nets are built tough, for all breeds, big and small.
About Us
Jaimie and Matthew are a husband and wife duo with 2 young boys and the team behind Sandy Creek Clydesdales. Jaimie comes from an equestrian background, growing up riding and competing in eventing. Matthew started blacksmithing at just 8 years old, and his interest in traditional farming and heavy horses grew from there. He eventually bought his first Clydesdale, Slippy, and began learning everything he could from older generations, books, and hands-on experience. They met while working with the heavy horses at Sovereign Hill, and that’s where Sandy Creek Clydesdales truly began.
Now, they run a registered Clydesdale stud where we breed a small number of foals each season. They break in and train all their own horses, show them in hand, and sell them across Australia and internationally.
While Matt is the teamster, trainer and educator behind the working displays and team driving, Jaimie focuses more on riding, education, and promotion. Keeping the community side of the business ticking along.
Together they have competed at national shows, earned titles in driven and led classes, and have shown their Clydesdales under saddle in dressage and eventing, winning and placing along the way.
"At the heart of everything we do is a genuine love for sharing and preserving the heritage of these horses. Clydesdales are a rare breed today, we feel it’s important that the next generation understands their value, not just historically, but in how they can still teach us today."
They aim to make learning about harness, farming, and heavy horses more accessible. Whether it’s a harness talk, a feeding demo, or just giving someone the chance to have a go, they’re always happy to open the door. "We love what we do, and we love sharing it!"
Why Sandy Creek Clydesdales Choose GutzBusta Hay Nets
"Over the years, with all the travelling we do, our horses’ comfort and welfare have always been our top priority, especially when it comes to feeding. As grazing animals, it’s really important to us that they can eat slowly and consistently throughout the day, even when they’re away from home.
Being Clydesdales, our horses are big, strong, and not exactly gentle on hay nets! We went through quite a few over the years, especially the standard styles with a single hole or soft material. They either got destroyed quickly, or the horses would eat way too fast and too much at once. We tried a few other slow feeder options too, but none of them really worked for us, until we came across GutzBusta hay nets.
What really appealed to us was the variety of hole sizes, ranging from extreme slow feeders to more open options for free feeding. This meant we could adjust things to suit each horse’s needs. Our easy doers can have smaller mesh and eat slower, while our younger horses or those needing more intake can have larger holes for easier access.
During long stretches like our 13-day stint at the Melbourne Royal, where our horses are in stables and day yards with limited grazing, GutzBusta hay nets have been a game-changer. They provide a consistent food source throughout the day, reduce boredom, and give the horses autonomy. If they want a break from the public, they can head back to their feed without needing constant handling or fuss.
We now have GutzBusta hay nets in our floats, in the truck, and in the paddocks at home. Especially during tough seasons like drought, they’ve made a real difference in reducing feed wastage and supporting our horses' health and happiness. They're incredibly durable, reliable, and we recommend them to everyone. Honestly, we wouldn’t use anything else now."
